
Tokyo Mew Mew is a magical girl manga series written by Reiko Yoshida and illustrated by Mia Ikumi. The original series was published from 2000 to 2003, with a two volume sequel in 2020. Sangatsu Manga has been the Finnish publisher for Tokyo Mew Mew. Tokyo Mew Mew has been adapted into two anime series from 2002 to 2003 and 2022 to 2023, and two video games based on the first series (2002).
Tokyo Mew Mew follows five young girls, each fused with the DNA of an endangered animal species. The DNA gives the girls superpowers and the ability to acquire physical traits of their respective animal species. The series carries a strong message of environmental conservation.
The group is led by Ichigo Momomiya, the protagonist of the story, who has the DNA of an Iriomote cat. The series has a strong message about conservation, and includes both comedy and drama, magic and science fiction, as well as romance.
