Japanese alternative fashion is a large cathegory which includes many different kind of styles. Some styles have changed over time, while others have almost completely lost their significance. Street styles do not rise out of nothing, but there is always some previous style or phenomenon that forms the basis, and by removing and adding different elements, something new is created. In the “From Tokyo to Tapiola” exhibition, styles curated by enthusiasts are presented one by one throughout the duration of the exhibition. The styles showcased are sweet lolita, country lolita, visual kei, historical lolita, fairy kei, decora, gothic lolita, jirai kei, gyaru, and old school lolita.
