Play Knowledge
The Museum Leikki opened in a new building in Tapiola, Espoo, in spring 2022 after a several year renewal project. With the relocation and renewal, the museum’s strategic profile also changed, and its strong mission became to act as an advocate and defender of play. In addition to material knowledge of toys, the museum now focuses increasingly on play with toys, intangible play, and play traditions.
In 2023–2025, the museum carried out the project Strengthening Expertise in Play and the Preservation of Childhood Cultural Heritage at the Museum Leikki. The project is funded by the Finnish Heritage Agency (grant for innovative museum projects) and the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation.
The results of the project and the Museum Leikki’s own survey material are presented on this site. The pages are intended to be further expanded upon in the future.
