Package “History of Toys and Play”
The museum Leikki’s KULPS!-package leads the students to look at the history of childhood and toys from many viewpoints. The package contains the introduction History of toys and play as well as the workshop Folk toy tune-up. During the introduction we blaze through the last hundred years of history in Finland with a focus on children and childhood, and ponder together how toys, play and children’s life have changed during the decades from the 1800s to today. In the Folk toy tune-up workshop we acquaint ourselves with a thousands of years old toy that is still in use. The students get to tune up their own version of the traditional wooden spinning top, or alternatively assemble and decorate a classic neppis car to their liking. The package can be done face-to-face, with a guide that comes to the school and leads the workshop in the class or some other room in the school, or as a distance version carried out via Teams and with the workshop material posted to the school. Length: c. 1h
