As the name suggests, gothic lolita is the gothic version of lolita fashion. The style draws inspiration from Victorian mourning attire and the visual kei music scene. One of the icons of gothic lolita is visual kei musician Mana, who owns his own fashion brand, Moi-même-Moitié. Mana also coined the terms “elegant gothic lolita” and “elegant gothic aristocrat.” Dark colors such as black, violet, dark blue, and red are essential in this style, and prints are typically not seen in this style. However, decorations such as lace, crosses, skulls, and coffins can be used.
